simple.

There really is something to be said about ‘keeping it simple’. Keeping things clear of confusion, clear of overwhelm, clear of stuff….it can go so many ways. I really do ‘strive’ to keep things simple, both physically & mentally. But I often get myself into more than I really want. I over think. I over accept. I sign up for too many email subscriptions, and get overwhelmed by them flooding into my inbox. Then I have to waste time unsubscribing. Why do we over complicate things?  Just don’t click on those subscribe buttons!

Young children (generally) are a great example of simple. If they want something, they’ll tell you. If they don’t want something, they’ll tell you. If they like you, they’ll say it. If they love you, they’ll say it. If they don’t, they’ll say that too. They keep it simple. They tell you (or scream at you) and make it known. They don’t hold it in for fear of what you might think of them. They don’t internalize it to the point of anxiety breakdowns. They don’t create stories in their minds as to why things are the way things are, or why they shouldn’t do such & such, or say such & such. They just do & say. Of course certain things come with consequences, but they are true to who they are & what they feel.

Where along the lines does that all change? When does the fear, judgements, criticism, lack of self & truth seep in and over-ride the simple system.

If you miss someone, tell them.

If you love someone, tell them.

If you want to eat that cookie, eat that cookie.

If you want to just shut off from the world for a little bit, then do it.

It doesn’t need to be over-thought, analyzed or made into a “what-if” scenario.

Keeping your physical space clear & simple is a whole other challenge on it’s own, but I know for many having the chaos of mess and clutter can add to those anxieties and overwhelm as well. Keeping your environment simple, can help empty out the mind, because there is space to do it. Seeing the mess, closes one’s self up even more.

Keeping it simple, mentally, physically & emotionally is always the goal. The journey there is a big one though. Sometimes with two steps forward and one step back, but keeping your soul open to the lightness of life, following what fills you with joy, surrounding yourself with the people who make it easy to just keep it simple, eat when you’re hungry, sleep when you’re tired. Keep to the basics. Keep to your truth. Keep to being you.

It’s as simple as that.
